Two weekends ago we went to St. George for Casey's Ironman training. I was so excited because it meant that I would get to ride my bike outside. On Saturday morning I woke up and headed out to one of the trails that our friends recommended. I had been ridding for about 2 miles on the trail before it started to descend and turn sharply. There was a little bit of gravel on the trail so I was taking it slow. As I was turning the corner a dog jumped in front of me. I was startled and didn't want to hit this huge dog so I swerved to miss it. As that was happening I hit some of the gravel and started to go down. I clipped out of my pedals but it was too late. I was skidding across the trail. After I got up I saw this lady walking towards me and this is the conversation we had.
She says "I think my dog caused your wreck."
My response "You think? No, he definitely caused my wreck."
She says "He doesn't mind very well."
My response "If your dog doesn't mind well then you should have him on a leash."
She says "These trails usually aren't that busy."
My response "Regardless if these trails are busy or not if your dog doesn't mind well he should always be on a leash"
She says "Have a great day."
I was in complete shock as she walked away because 1) she never once asked how I was doing (blood was dripping down my leg), 2) she never apologized for her dog being out of control and causing the wreck, and 3) she never asked if my bike worked (lucky for me it was still rideable but there is definitely something wrong with it).
Moral of the story is that you probably shouldn't be out biking on a new trail alone when you're 7 months pregnant. Lucky for me I was able to protect our Tamale so the baby is doing just fine. Below are pictures of the battle wounds. I don't think the pictures do it justice but it gives you some kind of idea.
Yikes. Glad the baby is ok though! And yes, some people are oblivious. :P or stupid. Maybe both.
